Cybercriminals launch assault on New York casino's main operating system

Cybercriminals reportedly struck two New York hospitals and the state's central operating system over the weekend.

Not all of the state's slot venues remained open when the casino operating system took over. Jake's 58 Casino was one of them.

After the event, Jake's 58 took a few days to reopen, but they kept patrons updated through social media.

The Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs), run by Everi Holdings for the New York Gaming Commission, are thought to have been impacted by this attack.

The official in charge of the video lottery gaming central system in New York, Everi, had a cybersecurity incident on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, and the matter is still being investigated, according to Brad Maione, a representative of the New York Gaming Commission.

There is no evidence that any personally identifiable information was compromised, according to the Commission. The situation is being closely monitored by the Commission.

Patients were redirected to other hospitals in the Hudson Valley until services were restored at HealthAlliance Hospital and Margaretville Hospital.

The massive cyberattacks that hit Las Vegas's MGM Resorts and Caesars Palace happened not long before this cyberattack.

In contrast to Caesars, MGM Resorts declined to pay the ransom demanded to avert an attack.

The perpetrators of these hacks allegedly obtained six terabytes of data and caused MGM to go dark for more than ten days.
